Dimensions, the linked research information system from Digital Science, today announced a new collaboration with ORCID which will make it possible for authors to connect their ORCID iD to Dimensions and import their publication metadata from Dimensions into to their ORCID record.<\/span><\/p>\n

A non-profit organization supported by the global scholarly community, ORCID provides individual, persistent digital identifiers that millions of researchers are using in key research workflows to ensure their contributions are more easily and accurately discovered and cited.<\/span><\/p>\n

Dimensions offers free search and discovery for over 91 million publications, and is a reliable, structured source for researchers looking to explore the latest research and stay up to date with progress in their field. <\/span><\/p>\n

From today, users will be able to connect their ORCID iD to their Dimensions account, and will have the option to export publication information to ORCID simply by clicking on an \u2018Add to ORCID\u2019 button alongside each publications listing in Dimensions. <\/span><\/p>\n

In addition to enabling authors to claim publications from within Dimensions, public data from ORCID are also now being used to support algorithmic author disambiguation across the platform. Where made available by the researcher, biographical details from ORCID are shown on the author\u2019s Dimensions profile.<\/span><\/p>\n

Speaking about the new development, Christian Herzog, lead on the Dimensions project at Digital Science, said \u201cWhen developing Dimensions, we had two options: either develop another proprietary researcher ID system, or build on the on the community driven infrastructure provided by ORCID. We obviously went with the ORCID option – the openness, interoperability and control it delivers for researchers is fully aligned with our goals and values at Digital Science. Our thanks to the ORCID team for helping us to realise this integration!\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n

Laure Haak, Executive Director of ORCID, welcomes this new collaboration. \u201cThe Dimensions integration provides an opportunity for researchers to connect their iD to their existing works and manage their professional contributions. \u00a0The Dimensions platform engages researchers in how their professional information is shared and improves information accuracy across the research ecosystem.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
